Hyderabad, December 6: Hours after being criticised for the encounter of four accused in Telangana rape-murder case by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and others, Cyberabad CP VC Sajjanar on Friday headed a press conference and briefed the media about the circumstances which led the police team to take such a step. Stating the reason for the encounter of the for rape accused, Sajjanar said they attacked the police with sticks and began firing at the police after snatching the weapons, which forced the police to reply in self-defence.

Elaborating about the whole incident to the media in Hyderabad, Sajjanar said that the police took the accused to crime spot as part of the investigation on the intervening night of December 4 and 5. He said, "Today, the police brought the accused to the crime spot as part of the investigation. The accused then attacked the police with sticks and then snatched the weapons from us, and they started firing on police." Adding more, he said, "The police warned them and asked them to surrender, but they continued to fire. Then we opened fire, and they were killed in the encounter. During the encounter, two policemen have been injured, and they have been shifted to the local hospital." Following the incident, Sajjanar said that they seized the weapons from the accused persons. The bodies of the accused have been shifted to local govt hospital for PME.

Sajjanar further informed about the case, stating that 'Disha' was kidnapped and sexually assaulted, and her body was burnt. He said, "She was kidnapped and sexually assaulted, and her body was burnt... We have collected a lot of scientific intelligence based on which we apprehended 4 people."

Meanwhile, NHRC has asked its DG (Investigation) to immediately send a team for fact-finding on the spot investigation into the matter. The team of the Investigation Division of the Commission headed by an SSP, is expected to leave immediately and submit their report, at the earliest.

It is to be known that the four accused -- all aged between 20 to 26 -- were killed in the encounter which broke out between them and the police forces at 3 am post-midnight on Friday. The deceased have been identified as Mohammed Areef, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen, and Chintakunta Chennakesavulu. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is yet to issue a statement on the encounter of accused in the Telangana vet rape-murder case.
