New Delhi, July 22: In a bizarre incident, an eight-year-old schoolgirl of Oxford Grammar School in Hyderabad's Himayatnagar was slapped for not plaiting her hair and attending school with a ponytail. According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, the parent of girl student has filed a police complaint stating that her science teacher slapped her for not plaiting her hair. However, no case was booked. Reports inform that the incident took place on July 19.

Following the complaint, the school management on Saturday suspended the teacher named Sita Lakshmi. The incident came to light only after the teacher’s suspension. The police complaint in the matter was filed by the girl’s mother, B. Nandini, the same day at the Narayanguda police station.

According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, a letter was issued by the Oxford Grammar school on Saturday regarding the incident. It said, “A complaint was filed by the parent of B. Vinoothna studying in Class 4, A section, alleging that science teacher Sita Lakshmi had slapped the child for not wearing a uniform hairstyle and not doing homework”. The school further informed that they regret this incident and upon the insistence of the parents the management, the teacher has been suspended.
