Hyderabad, August 7: In a tragic turn of events, a 22-year-old Dalit man died by suicide in Hyderabad after facing severe abuse from the family of an upper-caste woman he was in a relationship with. The incident occurred in Kukatpally and escalated tensions between the two families. The situation deteriorated when the woman’s relatives assaulted the victim and his family, leading to his tragic decision. The police have launched an investigation and filed charges related to the abetment of suicide and caste-based violence.
According to a report by the Times of India, the tragic events began when the deceased, identified as Kaki Sunil, a final year BCom student, was assaulted by the family members of a girl he was romantically involved with. On Monday night, August 5, Sunil and his friends visited a wine shop in Nizampet, where they encountered the girl's brother and cousin. An argument quickly escalated into violence, with the girl's relatives attacking Sunil with beer bottles. The situation deteriorated further when the girl's family, including her mother, brother, and cousin, followed Sunil back to his Kukatpally home. Despite previous warnings from the girl's family to end the relationship, Sunil had maintained contact with her, which exacerbated the conflict.
