Jaipur, November 4: In a shocking incident of human-animal conflicts, villagers in Rajasthan allegedly killed a tiger to death after the big cat mauled a man of Uliyana village to death near Ranthambore National Park (RNP). The big cat had killed the 45-year-old man on Saturday, November 2. Officials said that the tiger was a 10-year-old male big cat, which was later identified as T-86. They said that villagers attacked the tiger with stones and axes.

However, the forest department did not recover the tiger's body, nor did they issue any statement till late evening. According to a report in The Times of India, experts said that tiger lynching may become a trend in Rajasthan with such incidents. The villagers' attack on the tiger comes after the big cat mauled a villager to death. After the tiger attack, the villagers took to the streets to protest and even blocked a road. However, they ended their protest nearly 22 hours after Agriculture Minister Kirori Lal Meena spoke to them and mediated their demands. Speaking about the incident, a senior forest official said that the tiger was subsequently killed by the villagers.
Victim Was Grazing Goats When Attacked by Wild Cat
"It’s possible that the man provoked the tiger which retaliated and killed him," the official added. He also said that the big cat was found at the same location where the man was killed on November 2. The alleged tiger attack occurred on Saturday, November 2, when the victim, Bharat Lal Meena, was grazing goats in Uliyana village next to the national park. Rajveer Singh, SHO of Kotwali, said that the big cat attacked Meena, thereby killing him on the spot. Singh also said that the tiger kept sitting beside Meena's body and fled into the forest after villagers started screaming. On Sunday, November 3, villagers began a protest from Uliyana village with the deceased’s body but were intercepted by police at Jamoolkheda's turn before ending their protest following Kirori Lal Meena's mediation.
