Mumbai, October 9: In an online hotel booking scam, an IT firm consultant director named PK Javed, lost Rs 4 lakh on October 3 while trying to book a hotel ticket online, reported the Times of India. In his complaint, the IT engineer PK Javed from Pune stated that he dialled a telephone number which he had discovered during an online search. A man identified as Avinash answered the call and claimed to be an employee who looked after the online bookings of a five-star hotel, Javed said.
An amount of Rs 3.8 lakh was debited from Javed's account soon after he had shared the account details, even though the man identified as Avinash claimed over the phone that he had not received any money, Javed told police. Shortly after the incident, the IT engineer became suspicious and rushed to the hotel to make an enquiry. However, the hotel staff informed Javed that no one named Avinash worked there. Realising that he was duped by an online fraudster, Javed informed the police. On realising that scamsters duped him of Rs 4 lakh, PK Javed, visited the hotel in Mumbai to verify the booking he had made over the phone, The Times of India quoted an airport cop. Javed informed the police soon after the incident and a case has been registered in the matter. Meanwhile, several cases of online scams have been reported across Mumbai. In a similar incident Malabar Hill Woman was duped of Rs 1.84 lakh when she gave away her account number to an unknown person to change her name on flight ticket.
