Himachal Pradesh Witnesses Heavy Snowfall and Rain, Two-Day Holiday Announced in Kullu and Shimla Schools

In the wake of the heavy rainfall across the state, the District Administrations of Kullu and Shimla have extended the winter vacations by two more days for primary and senior secondary schools.

Shimla, February 10: Cold wave conditions intensified across Himachal Pradesh with several areas including Shimla, Manali, Lahaul and Spiti regions receiving fresh bouts of snow. In the wake of the heavy snowfall across the state, the District Administrations of Kullu and Shimla have extended the winter vacations by two more days for primary and senior secondary schools. On Sunday, the MeT department stated that more snowfall and rain is expected to lash the state in the coming week. The minimum temperature in Shimla was 2.5 degrees Celsius followed by Solan (2.4), Chail (2.3) and Dalhousie (1.2).  Himachal Pradesh: Snowfall in Major Tourist Places, Minimum Temperature Dips Below Freezing Point.

Due to heavy snowfall in the last week, some parts of Lahaul and Spiti also witnessed avalanches. The weatherman has forecast snowfall and rain at some places in mid and high hills while thundershowers in low hills and plains from February 12 to 15. Moreover, cloudy skies will prevail in most parts of the state on Sunday. Tourist spots including Manali and Kufri have been experiencing biting cold at minus two and minus 0.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Meanwhile, the tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong continued to be the coldest place at minus 11.6 degrees Celsius, the Met office said, adding. According to a report by PTI, the minimum temperature in tribal district Kinnaur's Kalpa was minus 4.6 degrees Celsius.
