Shimla, January 22: At least 26 people were injured after a tourist bus skidded off the road near Swarghat area in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday. The incident happened amid heavy rains in lower areas of the state while heavy snowfall was reported from the higher reaches. While 18 of those injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital in Nalaghar in Solan district, eight seriously injured people have been shifted to PGIMER in Chandigarh. Several such incidents have been reported from the state over the past one week due to heavy rains and snow. On Sunday, three persons were killed as their car fell into a gorge in Chamba district. The car, which had a Maharashtra registration number, fell into a gorge at Saru.
On Saturday, seventeen children were injured as a school bus overturned in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district. The private bus was ferrying the students to their school when the accident occurred after its steering got locked.
Heavy snowfall has enveloped Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kangra, Lahaul and Spiti district over the past few days. The MeT Office has forecast widespread rain and snow over the state with heavy falls at isolated places till Tuesday. Tourists have been advised to remain cautious while travelling to the state.
