Shimla, August 18: In the wake of heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh, schools, colleges and other educational institutions in Kullu and Shimla will be closed on Monday. Authorities of both the districts on Sunday issued orders regarding the closure of all educational institutes for the safety of children. Anganwari centres in Shimla will also be closed.
Kullu administration order stated, “Heavy rains and incidents of landslides in the region and the common folk particularly school/colleges/institutes going students are facing a lot of problems due to inclement weather.” In the view of haevy rain warning in Himachal Pradesh, a high alert has also been issued in various districts including Chamba, Kullu, Kangra of the state. Similarly, Shimla District Magistrate office said, “In view of the heavy rains and heavy blockage and damage caused to roads, it has become necessary to order closure of all the Educational Institution including Government, Private and Convent schools, Colleges, Universities, ITIs, Polytechnics and Anganwari Centres in Shimla District."

Meanwhile, 18 people were killed and nine others injured in rain-related incidents in the state on Sunday. According to reports, landslides hit a spot near the RTO office in Shimla, leaving three persons dead. In Narkand area of Shimla district, two Nepalese died, and three were injured after when a tree fell on their house. A man also lost his life after a landslide hit the national highway near Hatkoti Kenchi in Shimla's Rohru sub-division.
In another incident, a labourer was killed as the wall of a house collapsed here following heavy rains on early Sunday, the police said. The deceased has been identified as Shah Alam, who hailed from Bihar's Kishanganj district.
