Shimla, August 25: Heavy rainfall in hill state Himachal Pradesh have triggered landslides at several places, causing massive damage to roads. People in several areas including Kutt, Kundi, Khyuncha villages of Shimla district started commuting through mountains after flash floods damaged roads and bridges. According to a tweet by ANI, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police had restored one of the temporary bridges but it was damaged again due to heavy rainfall.

Reports inform that in the wake of heavy rainfall in the hill state, more than 100 lateral roads in the state were closed after being damaged by landslides. Hundreds of travellers and commuters were stranded. Earlier this week, the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway-21 has been closed for vehicles near Mandi town while the Chandigarh-Shimla National Highway-5 was hampered near Jabli town in Solan district.

Vehicular movement in Kinnaur district remained suspended since a large stretch of the Hindustan-Tibet Road has been under landslides at several points. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Friday informed that at least 35 people were killed during the Monsoon rains in the state.

While replying to a discussion on recent floods under call attention motion on the second day of the Monsoon Session in the state Assembly, Thakur informed that state had to bear a loss of Rs 990 crore as several roads, water and power supply were damaged. The Himachal Pradesh government has requested the Centre for at least Rs 200 crore as financial aid to meet the huge loss caused by the recent floods in the state.
