Himachal Pradesh Rains: 16 People Died Due To Incessant Rainfall; Schools To Be Remain Closed
A total of 16 people have died so far in Himachal Pradesh due to heavy rains. Hundreds of people were also stranded across the state after incessant rains triggered landslides, resulting in snapping of road links.
Shimla, August 13: A total of 16 people have died so far in Himachal Pradesh due to heavy rains. Hundreds of people were also stranded across the state after incessant rains triggered landslides due to which road links are also damaged. All the schools will remain closed tomorrow as per government orders. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has asked senior officials of the state government to review the situation that has raised due to heavy rainfall recently. He has also directed an immediate restoration of roads, water and power supply.
Earlier in the day, five people died due to landslides. According to media reports, Shimla, Kangra and Solan are the worst hit districts where heavy rains and flash floods have wreaked havoc. Landslides have been reported from various districts of the state. India Metrological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in the state over the next two days.
Additional Chief Secretary Manisha Nanda said that 923 roads were closed due to landslides, including six National Highways, and that men and machinery had been pressed into service to open these roads to traffic as soon as possible. Sujanpur Tira town in Hamirpur district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 307 mm, while it was 300 mm in Arki town in Solan district and 239 mm in Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district.
In the past 24 hours, Baijnath town in Kangra district recorded 235 mm, while Palampur town recorded 212 mm. It was 142 mm in Dharamsala town, 117 mm in Kasauli, 129 mm in Solan town and 72 mm in Dalhousie.
