Lahaul, October 4: After heavy rains and snowfall lashed Himachal Pradesh in the recent days, the tribal region of Lahaul and Spiti of the state is under the darkness, in the absence of water supply and electricity. 521 revenue villages in Lahaul and Spiti district are facing the aftermath of unpredicted climate, reported Hindustan Times. It is because of heavy snowfall which damaged 33-kilowatt electricity line from the Thirot power station to Karga, disrupting the lives of people. According to the reports, 80 percent of apple crops, as well as 90 percent of the electricity line, is damaged due to heavy snowfall. Sub-divisional magistrate of Keylong, Amar Singh told Hindustan Times that the Spiti and Lahaul region has asked the assistance of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) for the restoration of electricity lines across the region. The climate in Himachal Pradesh resulted in floods, water logging and disrupted the normal lives of the people. In the rescue operations, around 252 peoples mostly tourists were evacuated from the Lahaul region and 4,770 people were evacuated by road.
The recent showers in Himachal Pradesh was the heaviest since 1995. Snowfall, Cloudburst, and heavy rains from September 22 to September 24 have devasted most parts of the state. Heavy snowfall in Kunzum pass, Rohatak pass, Baralacha pass had cut Spiti and Lahaul valleys affected the connectivity of the Lahaul and Spiti Valley.
