Shimla, August 28: At least 116 animals were killed on Monday after getting trapped under boulders in Himachal Pradesh. According to a tweet by ANI, the incident took place after a portion of a hill collapsed on them in Kullu district's Nirmand. The cattle herder was also killed in the incident. Various landslide and rain-related incidences have been reported from several states and hundreds of commuters have been stranded as roads have been damaged.
Heavy rainfall triggering landslides and caused a havoc in northern states including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh for the last one week, leading to landslides and snapping off several road links.

Earlier this week, a landslide occurred on Pathankot-Dalhousie National Highway in Himachal Pradesh's Nainikhad area after heavy rainfall lashed the state. The landslide, which hit the highway, caused severe damages. Vehicular traffic has been stopped on the highway due to the massive landslide.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Friday informed that the state had suffered a loss of Rs. 990.54 crore due to monsoon rains that also claimed 35 lives. Thakur said that funds totalling Rs. 230 crore were released to carry out restoration works. "The maximum damage due to heavy rains was reported on August 12-13," Mr Thakur told the Assembly while replying to a calling attention motion. He said that Shimla saw record heaviest rainfall on a single day after 1901, which was 500 per cent above normal on August 12-13.
On Sunday, the Met office informed that the hills of Himachal Pradesh will see subdued rainfall activity the coming week. Most of the rivers that were in spate would see a decline in water levels as there was no major rainfall in the state in the past 24 hours. "There will be no heavy rainfall in the state but precipitation will occur at a few places in the state till August 30," an India Meteorological Department official told IANS.
