'Hemant Karkare Cannot be Respected,' Says RSS Leader Indresh Kumar Backing Pragya Thakur

RSS leader Indresh Kumar backed Malegaon blast accused Pragya Thakur and said Karkare acted wrongly by torturing others, but still, Pragya exhibited humanity by amending her statement on him after there was uproar over her remarks.

Bhopal, August 1: Indresh Kumar, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader on Wednesday sparked a row by saying people can pay tribute to former Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare but he cannot be respected. Kumar also backed Malegaon blast accused Pragya Thakur and said Karkare acted wrongly by torturing others, but still, Pragya exhibited humanity by amending her statement on him after there was uproar over her remarks. "Aatanki hamle me maare gaye Hemant Karkare ko shraddhanjali di ja sakti hai, par unka aadar nahin kiya ja sakta," Kumar said while addressing a press conference in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

In April this year, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, the Bhopal MP had said Karkare lost his life because she had cursed him. After receiving severe backlash over her statement, Thakur had taken back her statement and apologised saying she "felt that the enemies of the country were being benefited from it". Sadhvi was in more trouble after she had said that she was “proud” of her participation in the demolition of the Babri mosque at Ayodhya in 1992.
