Lucknow, July 29: A death toll has risen to 70 in Uttar Pradesh after heavy rains have wreaked havoc in the state in the last three days from July 26 – 29. Maximum casualties are reported from Saharanpur as 11 people died in the district. Nine deaths have been reported from Meerut, while multiple casualties have also been reported from places like Agra, Kasganj and Mainpuri. A total of 77 persons have also been injured due to heavy rains and lightning.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also directed senior officials to visit the affected places and to take preventive measures so that people should not face any inconvenience due to heavy rains. Monetary will also be given to people affected due to rains.
India Metreological Institute (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh over the next five days, mainly in isolated places of the eastern part of the state. IMD has also predicted heavy rain in West Bengal, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the Home Ministry's National Emergency Response Centre (NERC), As many as 537 people have lost their lives in floods and rains in six states during the monsoon season so far. Maximum casualties have been reported from Maharashtra. A total of 130 people died in the state.
