Heavy Rain Warning in Kerala: Red Alert Issued in 2 Districts; Schools in Kannur, Kasargod & Malappuram Districts Declare Holiday on July 23

Due to the heavy rainfall warning in Kerala, a red alert has been declared for Kannur and Kasaragod districts, orange alert for Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. Yellow alert for Palakkad, Trissur, Ernakulam and Idukki districts has been issued.

Kerala, July 23: Kerala has been receiving very heavy rainfall over the last few days.  According to IMD prediction, Kerala and Karnataka will continue to receive heavy downpour today as well.  As a result of it, a red alert has been declared for Kannur and Kasaragod districts, orange alert for Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad districts. Yellow alert for Palakkad, Trissur, Ernakulam and Idukki districts has been issued. Due to the alert, holiday has been declared for schools in Kannur, Kasargod and Malappuram districts.

According to a News Minute report, Kerala has witnessed a total of 21 rain-related casualties, since the south-west monsoon hit the state on July 8. The maximum number of deaths have been recorded in the northern district of Kasaragod where 5 people have lost their lives. While four of them died due to drowning, and one death was recorded due to electrocution.
