New Delhi, June 3: Scorching heatwave conditions continued to grip parts of the nation even on Monday with mercury crossing the 45-degree-mark in most places. According to a weather forecast by India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast on Monday, northern India will continue to sizzle in the heatwave conditions for the next two days till Wednesday. According to a report by El Dorado Weather website, a total of eight cities in India are among the world’s 15 hottest places. Severe Heatwave Conditions to Prevail Over North And Central India For Next 48 Hours, Says IMD.
The eight cities in India which are reeling under severe heatwave conditions are- Churu, Sri Ganganagar, Phalodi, Bikaner, Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, Nowgong and Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh and Narnaul in Haryana. While most places endured maximum temperatures above the normal mark, mercury was still at 48.9°C in Rajasthan's Churu on Monday, Sri Ganganagar recorded 48.6 Degrees, Phalodi with 48.2 Degrees, Bikaner with 48.1 Degrees, while Jaisalmer recorded 47.8 degree Celsius. Maharashtra Reels Under Severe Heatwave Condition, Nagpur Sizzles at 45 Degrees Celsius.

On Saturday, Churu was hottest city in India with temperature touching 50 degrees Celsius in the district. The Met Department in Jaipur had issued a red alert and a yellow alert in many districts for the next five days in view of the intense heat wave gripping many parts of the state.
The IMD on Monday said that the rising heat will pass over Vidarbha over the next five days and over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and south Uttar Pradesh during next two days. A heatwave is considered if the maximum temperature reaches at least 40 degrees Celsius or more for plains, 37 degrees for coastal ares and at least 30 degrees for hilly regions.
