Heart Attack Deaths at Garba Events in Gujarat: 10 People Die of Heart Attack While Playing Garba, Says Report

On Friday, a 24-year-old man from Ahmedabad allegedly collapsed while playing Garba and died later. In a similar incident, a 17-year-old boy, Veer Shah, reportedly died after cardiac arrest while playing Garba at Kapadvanj in Kheda district.

Gandhinagar, October 23: The festival of Navratri is being celebrated with much fervour and gaiety across the country. Amid the joy of the festive season, there has also been some tragic news from Gujarat, where nearly 10 deaths due to heart attacks have been reported at Garba events across the state in the past 24 hours. The youngest victim among the 10 deaths is said to be a 13-year-old boy.

10 People Die of Heart Attack While Playing Garba

As per a report in India Today, the victims of heart attacks include teenagers to middle-aged people. These untimely deaths come when the nation is immersed in the festive spirits of the Navratri festival. Another news report said that over 500 ambulance calls were made in Gujarat in the past 24 hours. On Friday, a 24-year-old man from Ahmedabad allegedly collapsed while playing Garba and died later. Later, a series of similar cases of heart attack deaths were reported in the state in the past day.

Government Issues Alert

The sudden rise in heart attack deaths at Garba events in Gujarat has led government and event organisers to take action. The state government issued an alert and has directed Garba event organisers to take necessary measures. 108 Emergency Ambulance Services Receive Over 500 Calls

The report also said that during the first six days of the Navratri festival 2023, the 108 emergency ambulance services received over 500 calls for heart-related issues. Besides, they also received over 600 calls from people across the state for breathlessness. Notably, the calls were received between 6 pm and 2 am, when Garba celebrations were underway in the state.
