Mumbai, Sep 10: The Mumbai police suspect robbery to be the motive behind the murder of HDFC Bank’s vice-president Siddharth Sanghvi. The police recovered the body of Sandhvi on Monday. The deceased HDFC Bank's vice president had gone missing on September 5. Cops have apprehended one Sarfaraz Shaikh, who has been sent to police custody till 19 September.

Addressing a press conference, the Mumbai police said Sarfaraz was in dire need of money. "As per preliminary investigation, robbery is the motive behind the murder of HDFC vice-president Siddharth Sanghvi. The accused, Sarfaraz, was in dire need of money," DCP Abhinash Kumar told media. He added that Sarfaraz made a call to Sanghvi's family but didn't ask for money.

The police have recovered Sanghvi's cellphone from which Sarfaraz made the call. "Sarfaraz panicked when Sanghavi raised the alarm and hence stabbed him," Kumar said. He then kept the body in Sanghavi's car, drove to Kalyan and dumped it in Haji Malang. He drove back to Koparkhairane in Navi Mumbai where he stayed and abandoned the vehicle, the cop claimed.

The 39-year-old banker had left his office in the Kamala Mills area here at 7:30 pm on September 5, and had been missing since then. Subsequently, his kin registered a complaint at NM Joshi Marg police station, following which the investigation into the matter was initiated. Sarfaraz has been booked under IPC sections 364 (kidnapping or abduction with intent to confine), 365 (kidnapping or abduction with intent to murder) and 302 (murder).
