Lucknow, August 17: Hours after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that residential schools, named after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will be built in all 18 mandals (divisions) in the state, Lucknow's Hazratganj Chauraha (intersection) was renamed as Atal Chowk after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Friday.
The announcement was made to commemorate the first death anniversary Bharat Ratna awardee and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Posters could be seen on the streets of Lucknow's Hazratganj Chauraha, declaring it as Atal Chowk. Earlier, Yogi Adityanath also announced that a 25-feet tall statue of the former prime minister will be installed at Lok Bhawan in December. Even Ekana Stadium in Lucknow has been named after him and a medical university will soon be established in the state capital on his name, the state government declared.
