Chandigarh, Sept 9: In a shocking case of crime against women in Haryana, a woman sub-inspector was allegedly gangraped inside the premises of Palawal police station, reports said on Sunday.

A complaint has been lodged against five suspects in the case, Mirror Now reported. The police has launched an investigation into the case. No arrests, however, have been made so far.

The incident further highlights the lack of security for women in Haryana. The state has recorded 70 cases of gangrapes till May 31, 2018, as per the data maintained by the police.

The figures released by the Haryana police in 2017 painted a further grim picture, with a total of 1,238 rape cases recorded in the state, along with 141 attempt to rape, 2,039 molestation, 285 eve teasing 2,432 kidnapping and 3,010 dowry harassment cases.

As per the statistics, an average of four rapes were committed in Haryana on daily basis in 2017.

The alarming figures come in the backdrop of the government enacting and implementing the Centre's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, aimed at saving the girl child and educating her.
