Haryana Shocker: Patient Left Unattended Inside MRI Machine in Panchkula Hospital, Forced to Break Belt to Get Out

Chandigarh, September 24: In another case of medical negligence, an elderly man in Haryana was forced to break the MRI machine belt to come out of it after he was left unattended inside the machine in a hospital on Monday. The patient alleged that the the doctors and technicians conducting the scan allegedly forgot him inside the machine, leaving him gasping for breath. According to a tweet by ANI, the man said that no hospital staff attended him when he went to get a scan done in a hospital in Panchkula.
Describing his ordeal, the man said that he had to break the belt to get out of the machine. "I was gasping for breath, but no one was there to take me out," the man said. "Finally, after struggling for over half-an-hour, I somehow managed to break the machine belt and came out", he added. As soon as the incident was reported, police rushed to the spot to take a stock of the situation. An official said that the doctors at the hospital are conducting an inquiry and further proceedings will be carried out once they submit a report.

A report by India Today states that, the patient, identified as Ramhar Lohan, had dislocated his shoulder while driving a two wheeler. The 60-year-old man was advised by the doctors to get a MRI scan done, following which Lohan went to Panchkula civil hospital for the MRI scan.
According to the complainant, the technician said the process could take 10-15 minutes, but forgot to take him out from the machine, a charge the hospital denies. Reports inform that the patient has also registered a police complaint demanding action against the carelessness of the hospital staff.
Meanwhile, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij was quoted by PTI saying that he learnt about the incident through media reports and had sought detailed a report from the director general, health.
