Chandigarh, December 29: Public and private schools in Haryana have been asked by the state government to prepone the Winter break. The educational institutes, which were scheduled to remain shut from January 1-15, have been asked to declare holidays on December 30-31 as well. The directive was issued by the Directorate of School Education, citing the ongoing spell of intense cold wave. Winter 2019: Cold Wave Conditions to Persist Over Northern States, Says IMD.

"Due to intense cold wave in the state, government has declared holiday on December 30 and 31 in all the schools in the state. All schools will reopen on January 16 after regular winter break from 1st to 15th January," said the statement issued by the Directorate.

North India is reeling under the most intense cold wave conditions in the past few decades. The worst brunt of the winter season has been felt by Delhi, with temperature in the national capital dipping to as low as 1.7  degree celsius. Several schools and colleges in the national capital region, along with neighbouring Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh have been asked to remain closed.
