Haryana: 5 Killed, 9 Injured as Car Runs Over Sleeping Labourers on Bridge in Hisar

Gurugram, November 21: At least five people have been killed and nine people have been injured after a speeding car ran over them in Haryana. According to a tweet by ANI, the gruesome incident took place after a car ran over labourers sleeping on a bridge in Hisar. The injured ones have been admitted to the civil hospital. The incident took place around 2 am on Wednesday. The speeding car then hit another car and fell off the bridge. Drivers of both cars were injured.

The deceased were residents of Bihar's Saharsa and Khagaria districts. According to a report by The Tribune, the car first rammed into another car on the Jindal Railway Overbridge and then over two people who were sleeping on the roadside.

Reports inform that the repair work was underway on the overbridge and the labourers had gone to sleep on the footpath after work.  As per details by Police, the driver allegedly lost control of the car and the vehicle fell down 50 feet after breaking the railings of the overbridge. According to a data compiled by Haryana police, at least 14 people lost their lives while 28 persons on an average were injured daily in road accidents in Haryana in 2016-17. According to a report by Indian Express, reports inform that Gurugram tops all the districts in Haryana with the highest number of fatalities followed by Sonepat and Karnal. The report further states that while 10,531 people were injured in 2016, there were 10,339 who got injured in 2017. Meanwhile, 3882 people lost their lives in accidents from January 1 to October 31 2018.
