Harmanpreet Kaur to Lose DSP Rank? Police Verification Says Cricketer's Degrees Are 'Fake'
Harmanpreet was made the DSP of Punjab police for her achievements in Cricket but the cloud over the authenticity of her educational degrees prohibit her from continuing with the force, said seniors in the police department. However, she will be given a chance to claim the position again if she qualifies and gets the educational degrees as required.
Chandigarh, July 2: Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women Twenty20 team, will have to face the awkward situation of losing her job in Punjab Police, because of fake degrees. According to a report in The Times of India, it was discovered during police verification that her degrees are fake or "bogus." Harmanpreet Kaur also received the Arjuna award in the year 2017. She was appointed as the deputy superintendent of police (DSP) in Punjab police personnel, on March 1, after her exploits in International cricket.
Harmanpreet is a native of Moga in Punjab, and according to media reports, the police has said that her testimonials are not true and correct. The police department is also reported to have sent a proposal to the Home department in which the police has said that the cricketer cannot continue as DSP because her graduation degrees are fake. The Home Department is headed by the Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh.
The DGP (Administration) of Punjab, MK Tiwari, was quoted by the Times of India saying that Harmanpreet had produced the graduation degree conferred on her by Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut. However, on investigation, it was proven to be bogus.
Harmanpreet, who was previously employed with the Railways, had thanked Union Minister Piyush Goyal for his help after she was inducted in Punjab Police Force. “Excited about joining @PunjabPolice as DSP. Thank you Chief Minister @capt_amarinder Ji for pursuing my bond waiver with @RailMinIndia. Your support & encouragement will always keep me motivated to deliver my best. And thank you also @PiyushGoyal Ji for your help in the matter,” she had tweeted.
