Haridwar, August 9: To take revenge of the death of one of his two pet dogs, a man in Haridwar poisoned and killed three leopards in the Rajaji National Park. After the pup died, the accused, identified as Sukhpal, used insecticide and sprinkled it over the deceased dog's carcass. He later threw canine's body inside the forest. The crime came to light when post-mortem of leopards showed that they died due to poisoning after consuming the meat of dog, reported Times of India.

The carcasses of three leopards were found from different locations in the Rajaji National Party on August 5. The trio had died from poisoning and had eaten the same dog. Then they found that the accused's wife works as a contractual employee in a forest nursery. The further probes connected the links with Sukhpal, and he confessed to the crime. The accused has been arrested under section 51 of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
