Handwara, August 21: The security forces have neutralised one terrorist in an encounter which broke out in Jammu and Kashmir’s Handwara earlier today. The forces are yet to recover his body as the operation is still underway. According to reports, soldiers of 30 Rashtriya Rifles patrolling party was attacked by the terrorists at Ganapora near Yaroo area of Langate in Handwara. The forces retaliated which resulted in a brief gun battle. Two-three terrorists were believed to have fled from the spot.

Later, a joint operation was launched with the help of Jammu and Kashmir police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). On August 17, an Indian Army soldier lost his life following a brief gunfight between the security forces and terrorists in Kupwara district. According to a report by IANS, the security forces laid a cordon around Kachlu village in Kralgund area after specific intelligence inputs.

In 2018, around 140 terrorists have been gunned down, while close to 60 security personnel lost their lives in counter-insurgency operations in the Kashmir valley. The security forces have launched Operation ‘All-Out’ to eliminate terrorism from the valley.
