Gwalior, December 26: Two young men highly frustrated with the soaring onion prices decided to steal the staple kitchen diet. The duo stole onions worth Rs 60,000 and sold them at throwaway prices at Rs 10-20 in just a few hours in Gwalior. According to a Times of India report, the two teens sneaked into a godown and stole as many onions and garlic they could.
The suspects have been arrested and according to police, a dozen 'Katta' (50 kg) of onions and two 'Katta' of garlic were stolen. The reason why the accused had stolen the onions was because they have turned very expensive. They sold Rs 60,000 worth of onions and garlic at just Rs 6,000. Onions, on the other hand, are being sold at an exorbitantly high price in most states. In Madhya Pradesh itself, the price of the bulb is in the range of Rs 100-120. According to an early December report, state-run trading firm MMTC placed another onion import order of 4,000 tonnes from Turkey and the shipments of which are expected to reach by mid-January.
