Guwahati, Aug 30: A major fire was reported in Guwahati, the capital of Assam, on Thursday. The blaze, which required eight fire tenders to be put off, ended up gutting down ten houses and three shops.

According to the Assam State Fire Services, they received an alarm at 12 noon of a the fire which broke in Uluberia region of Guwahati, which houses a slew of commercial establishments.

The fire, reports claimed, broke out at the third floor a commercial building. At least ten houses and three shops were completely gutted down, whereas, nearly a dozen of offices were partially affected.

Although the exact cause of the inferno is yet to be ascertained, locals claimed the fire was caused an electric short circuit.

No casualties of injuries were reported in the incident. The Assam Fire Services personnel were present at the site till the time this report was published.

Notably, the last major fire in Guwahati was reported in November 2015, when a portion of the Fancy Bazar was gutted under the blaze. Over 30 fire tenders were then required to bring down the flames.
