Gurugram, September 2: A pangolin was killed by the villagers near Gurugram at Patakpur village in Punhana. The villagers killed the pangolin as they could not understand what it was. A report in the Times of India said that after spotting the pangolin, the villagers were so terrified that they were confused what to do with the pangolin. The villagers first chased the pangolin. Fearing the chaos, the pangolin rushed to the villagers to save itself. The villagers then killed the pangolin.
When the forest department was informed about the incident, they rushed to the village. However, it was too late as the pangolin had already been killed by the villagers.
The forest department reportedly spoke to the villagers after the incident. They tried to explain the villagers the importance of pangolin and what its role is in the cycle of nature.
The people of the village were told that the pangolin they killed was a rare species and that they are harmless. The forest department told the villagers not to repeat their act if they spotted a pangolin again. After few hours, the pengolin was laid to rest by the forest officials.
