Gurugram, October 27: In a horrific incident in Gurugram, a man murdered his business partner after he failed to repay a loan of Rs 40 lakh. The man, identified as Harnek Singh, later slit his wife's throat after she backtracked on her promise to commit suicide together. The first murder took place on October 15 in which one of Singh's friend was also involved, the police said.

According to the police, Harnek Singh had taken a loan from Jaskaran Singh. However, he was unable to pay it despite repeated reminders. On October 14, Jaskaran landed at Harnek's home in DLF Phase 2 where the accused, his wife Gurmehar Kaur and their friend tied him up and killed him. Jaskaran's body was chopped into 24 to 25 pieces and stuffed into two plastic bags.

After the murder, Harnek and his wife left for their hometown of Ludhiana. During the journey, the accused kept throwing the body pieces at isolated places, the police said. They returned to Gurugram a few days later. After returning to Gurugram, Harnek realised that they would be caught eventually and convinced his wife to commit suicide together.

When she refused, Harnek allegedly slit her throat on the night of October 22 and also inflicted injuries on himself to mislead the police. He then told the police that his house was ransacked and robbers had killed Gurmehar Kaur, Subhash Bokan, the public relations officer of Gurugram Police, said. During interrogation, Harnek confessed to the murders.
