Gurugram Firing: Wife of Additional Sessions Judge Succumbs to Injuries, Son Critical

Wife of additional sessions judge, who was shot at by his gunman on Saturday, has succumbed to her injuries Sunday. Gunman Mahipal was arrested after he shot at wife and son of additional sessions judge in Sector 49, near Arcadia market in Sector-49 of Gurugram. Ritu (38) and Dhruv (18), wife and son of Additional District Judge Shrikant, were shot at by their gunman, Mahipal on Saturday in a busy crowded market. The two injured were admitted to a hospital with serious wounds, Gurugram Police Commissioner K.K. Rao had said. He had said that the two were "very critically injured."

A preliminary report had said that security guard Mahipal Singh had opened fire at the woman and her son. "We are trying to ascertain facts," the officer was quoted as saying.

A video shot by a passer-by showed the suspected assailant in uniform trying to lift the judge's son and put him in a car, but fled the spot when he could not do so.

Sulochana Gajraj, DCP East Gurugram said interrogation is underway and it is too early to comment on the reason behind the incident. "Mahipal has been working as Judge's gunman from last 1.5 years. Both the son and the wife of the judge who were shot by Mahipal are critical now", she added. The woman suffered a bullet injury in her chest while the boy suffered an injury in his head. Media reports said that Mahipal shot at the police as well, but missed.
