Gurgaon, August 8: In a shocking incident, 59-year-old Devendra Mathur, a former staffer with the Delhi government's Department of Women and Child Development, allegedly murdered his 23-year-old daughter-in-law, Amita Devi, in Gurgaon's Sector 7 on Tuesday, August 6. The brutal act was witnessed by Mathur's son, Mukul. Devendra reportedly suspected Amita of having an affair and beat her before strangling her with a long scarf. The incident came to light when Devendra himself called the police control room at 11:40 am, confessing to the crime.
As per an Indian Express report, Amita hailed from Gohana in Sonipat and married Mukul in 2017. The couple had two children, aged six and four. Mukul, who has polio, is dependent on his father. The sequence of events leading up to the crime began with Mathur's increasing suspicion that Amita was involved in an affair. The incident occurred while Amita’s two children were at school.
