Ahmedabad, November 16: Smriti Irani, Union Textiles and Women and Child Development Minister and BJP leader performed a traditional Gujarat dance ‘talwar raas’ in Bhavnagar on Friday. The Union Minister was seen wielding two swords in her hand and performing the dance along with severala girls at a cultural program organised there. The traditional dance form 'talwar raas’ means using talwar (swords) during the performance. The Minister said she could not resist the urge to perform the traditional dance after watching girls put up a stellar display.

In the video released by ANI, Irani is seen taking the stage and giving her best to match steps with the girls while holding two swords. The video which later went viral on social media platforms, shows a group of girls performing the dance, while Irani tries to match their steps. 'Talwar Raas'', is a traditional folk dance that is popular in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Smriti Irani Distributes Laptops to Lekhpals, Says Amethi Should Be Known for Digitisation.

The cultural program, attended by hundreds of women, was held in the premises of Swaminarayan Gurukul in Bhavnagar. Reports inform that Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani and Lok Sabha MP Bharatiben Shiyal were among the dignitaries present on the occasion.

According to reports, during the function, Irani took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi who she defeated in Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. In her speech, Irani referred to her victory against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi Lok Sabha seat.
