Surat, October 1: Two shocking cases of sexual assault of children have come to the fore in Gujarat. A five-year-old girl was critically injured after his teen neighbour allegedly raped him and dumped her in a pipe. In another case, a girl of the same age was allegedly raped by an unidentified person. Both the girls have suffered serious injuries and have been admitted to the hospital. Hours after the first girl went missing, the police formed a  team comprising 50 men and found her in a huge pipe lying in an open ground. The police said that the accused was taken into custody for interrogration and he confessed to his crime. The arrest was made on the testimony of a 6-year-old boy, a friend of the victim, with whom she was playing when the accused picked her. Surat Boy Falls in Open Manhole, Body Recovered 5 Hours Later.

In the second case, the victim went missing on Saturday and returned home by night in an injured condition. When the parents took her to the hospital, doctors informed them that she was sexually assaulted. Police suspect that the girl was raped after she went out of her house to answer the nature's call. The police have registered a rape case under the POCSO Act against the unidentified accused.
