Rajkot, July 6: In a shocking incident, a pregnant woman in Gujarat's Rajkot ended her life by consuming acid after being harassed by her husband. Reports inform that the four-month pregnant woman died by suicide at Bhichri village in Rajkot on Sunday. The woman is reported to have taken the extreme step allegedly due to the harassment meted out by her husband, identified as Vasant. The couple has a three-year-old son and the woman again pregnant with twins.

According to a report by TOI, the woman, identified as 30-year-old Jivu Solanki, consumed acid on Sunday following which she was rushed to the  Rajkot Civil Hospital. The woman was later referred to a private hospital where she died. Vasant told cops that he had an argument with his wife over a financial issue after which she consumed acid. In his complaint, the victim's brother alleged that Vasant had been harassing and beating her. Adding further, he said that Vasant used to thrash her over suspicion of her having extra-marital affairs and said that he wanted to divorce her. On the basis of the complaint registered by the deceased's brother, an offense of abetment to suicide and cruelty was registered.
