Surendranagar, October 1: In a chilling incident from Haripar village in Surendranagar district, Gujarat, two shepherds discovered a three-day-old girl buried alive, with only her mouth visible above the surface. The infant was allegedly buried by her maternal grandparents to hide her existence, born out of wedlock from their daughter's love affair. Driven by a misguided attempt at honour killing, the family resorted to this extreme measure to protect their reputation in the community, fearing societal backlash due to their daughter's premarital pregnancy.

Following the shocking discovery, police acted swiftly and detained three individuals, including the infant's maternal grandparents and a man who reportedly assisted them in the burial. According to an Aaj Tak report, the authorities are investigating the case as an attempted honour killing. The baby girl, miraculously found alive, has since been taken to a local hospital for medical attention, where she is now reported to be in stable condition. Gujarat Shocker: 9 Members of Family Attempt Mass Suicide by Consuming Poison Over Unpaid Dues of INR 2.75 Crore.

Medical personnel were called in to provide immediate assistance to the newborn, who had been buried in a shallow grave with only her mouth exposed to allow her to breathe. Bharuch Shocker: Instagram Acquaintance Holds Woman Hostage on Knife Point in Gujarat, Arrested.

As the police began their investigation, they spoke to those involved in rescuing the child and started probing nearby villages. Their inquiries revealed that the grandparents had buried the infant out of fear for their family's reputation due to their daughter’s premarital pregnancy. The police have stated that the girl's mother, although not yet detained due to her ill health, was complicit in the decision to bury her child. Authorities are preparing to take further action against her once her condition improves.
