Ahmedabad, October 11: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Hardik Patel were seen together at a restaurant in Ahmedabad on Friday. Gandhi arrived in Gujarat to appear before a court in connection with a defamation case filed against him, for calling Union Home Minister Amit Shah a "murder accused". After his arrival at the Ahmedabad airport, Gandhi went straight to city circuit house for a meeting with state Congress leaders.

Gandhi is likely to appear before different magistrates' courts on Friday in connection with two criminal defamation suits filed against him. One of the case has been filed for Gandhi calling Union Home Minister Amit Shah a "murder accused". The second is about his claim that the Ahmedabad District Cooperative (ADC) Bank, of which Shah is a director, was involved in a scam of swapping demonetised notes worth Rs 750 crore with valid currency within five days of demonetisation in 2016. The suit has been filed by the ADC Bank and its chairman Ajay Patel. Rahul Gandhi Pleads Not Guilty in Defamation Case Over His 'Why Do All Thieves Have Modi as Surname' Remark

The Gujarat unit of Congress said Rahul Gandhi would reach the court premises around 2.30 pm on Friday. In July, the Congress leader appeared before a magistrate's court here in connection with the defamation suit filed by the ADC Bank and pleaded not guilty.

In March this year, just ahead of Lok Sabha Elections, Patidar quota agitation leader Hardik Patel had joined the Congress party.  Justifying his decision to enter active politics, Patel said he could now work for the six crore people of Gujarat in a better way.
