Gandhinagar, January 6: A joint operation held by the Gujarat Police ATS and the Indian Coast Guard helped nab five Pakistan nationals who allegedly tried to smuggle heroin worth Rs 175 crores in India via the Kutch coast in Gujarat. The police sources were quoted saying by English daily The Hindu that the police acted after receiving credible inputs. The large scale smuggling exposed has brought to light the Pakistani connection as far as drug smuggling is concerned. Earlier, several agencies had pointed fingers at Pakistan for the drug menace in the state of Punjab in India too. “We are committed to thwart attempts to smuggle narcotics in State, & well prepared to face any challenge in front of coastal security of 1600 km long coast. Anti-Terrorist Gujarat, in joint operation with Indian Coast Guard caught 5 Pakistani nationals with Heroin worth ₹ 175 Cr,” Gujarat DGP Shivanand Jha said on Twitter.
Gujarat ATS DIG Himanshu Shukla was quoted saying by the The Hindu that the smugglers were trying to get the large scale drug consignment into the country through the sea route via Gujarat coast. In another major drug racket busted, Mumbai Police arrested two men with heroin worth Rs 12 crores in the city, said an official on Sunday.
