Ahmedabad, August 29: Security forces are in a state of high alert at all ports on the Gujarat coastline following intelligence inputs that Pakistan-based terrorists might be planning a suicide attack at Kandla port. According to news agency ANI, security has been enhanced at all ports in Gujarat following inputs that Pakistani commandos are likely to infiltrate into Indian territory through sea route "to create communal disturbance or terrorist attack". Adani Ports and Logistics has also issued a high alert after inputs that Pakistan-trained commandos might be planning to enter Gulf of Kutch through Harami Naala Creek. "Persons from all security agencies have reached Kandla port and security arrangements have been tightened. The Coast Guard, Navy, Marine Police and local police have been sensitized about the situation and steps are already in place. Security at all ports on the Gujarat coastline has been beefed up," a top police official was quoted by TOI as saying. Intelligence inputs suggest that Pakistan-trained SSG commandos or terrorists would try to enter Gulf of Kutch and Sir Creek area using small boats.
"Border Security Force (BSF), Indian Coast Guard along with other security agencies are on high alert," sources told ANI. Following the threat alert, security has been tightened up not only in coastal areas but also at inter-state checkpoints and the country's second-largest single-site oil refinery in Jamnagar. An armed contingent of over 100 Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) commandos, led by an Assistant Commandant-rank officer, has taken over counter-terror security duties at the refinery. Last week, a high alert was sounded across Rajasthan after the state police received intelligence inputs that four Afghan terrorists have infiltrated into India along with an agent of Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI.
A similar alert was issued in Tamil Nadu's Chittoor district amid reports of terrorist intrusion. Intelligence agencies said that the six-member group intruded into Tamil Nadu via Sri Lanka and had settled in Coimbatore.
