Ahmedabad, January 5: Amid the rising number of infant deaths in Gujarat, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Sunday walked away when he was being asked about reports of deaths of infants in Rajkot and Ahmedabad hospitals. Reports claim that 111 children died in just a month at a Civil Hospital in Rajkot while 85 other kids have lost their lives at at Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. The issue was also highlighted in a leading Gujarat daily Divya Bhaskar. According to a latest tweet by ANI, GS Rathod, Superintendent of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital was quoted saying that in December 2019, a total of 455 newborn were admitted in neonatal intensive care unit (ICU), of them 85 died. Meanwhile, Manish Mehta, Dean, Rajkot Civil Hospital, 111 children died in the month of December at Rajkot Civil Hospital.
After the tragedy at Kota's J.K. Lon Hospital in Rajasthan, this similar issue surfaced from Gujarat. The tragedy of infants dying in Kota hospital in Rajasthan is not an isolated trend as nearly 1,235 infants have died in Gujarat's Rajkot in 2019. The reason for child deaths in Gujarat Hospitals is due to lack of facilities Special Care Units & uncooperative attitude of the hospital staff forcing parents to run from pillar to post, a Twitter user said.

Twitter user, @payalmehta100 quoted a report by @dave_janak which stated that in January 2019, 122 deaths were reported, in February, as many as 105 kids died, in March 88 deaths were reported, 77 in April, 78 in May, 88 in June, 84 in July, 100 in August, 118 in September, 131 deaths in October, 110 in November and 134 in December.
In Rajasthan's Kota, a government-appointed panel's report showed that around 105 children died in a span of over a month due to cold shivering in the hospital as it lacked everything a normal hospital should have.
