Also, the issue of infant deaths was highlighted in a leading Gujarat daily Divya Bhaskar. The Twitter thread further informs that the in Ahmedabad, the infant deaths in 2019 accounted for 94 in October, 74 in November and 85 in December.
The incident came to light at a time when Kota's J.K. Lon Hospital in Rajasthan is under scanner for nearly 110 infant deaths in a span of over a month due to cold shivering in the hospital. The hospitals are said to have lacked everything a normal hospital should have. The committee formed by the Rajasthan government to probe the lacunae in the hospital resulting in the deaths of kids has confirmed in its report that infants died due to hypothermia, a medical emergency that occurs when the body temperature falls below 95 F (35 C). The normal body temperature is 98.6 F (37 C).
