Kevadia, September 18: A police sub-inspector, deputed in the security bandobast (arrangement) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kevadia Colony in Gujarat, allegedly shot himself to death on Tuesday afternoon. According to an official, the cop ended his life using his service revolver. Several reports inform that the official, identified as 29-year-old NC Finaviya, is believed to have differences with his seniors. However, the reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained. According to a reports, the cop shot himself outside the Kevadia Colony Circuit House at around 10.30 am. A complaint has been lodged with the Kevadiya police station in connection with the incident. The report further states that when the incident took place, the Prime Minister was inspecting the tourist facilities at the Statue of Unity. The Prime Minister had visited Kevadia to take part in the "Namami Devi Narmade Mahotsav," organised by the state government. The event was organised on the occasion of water level in the Sardar Sarovar dam reservoir touching its highest mark of 138.68 metres.
Finaviya was posted in Navsari district's Local Intelligence Bureau (LIB). He had come to Kevadia for the security bandobast for PM Modi's visit. RD Oza, deputy superintendent of police (DySP), Navsari confirmed the incident and said that Finaviya took the extreme step while on duty outside the Kevadia Circuit House at around 10:30 am.
Finaviya died on the spot, he said, adding his body has been sent for post-mortem. Oza further added that he took the service revolver of his friend M B Konkani on the pretext of taking his picture with the weapon and shot himself. "The moment Konkani handed over the revolver, Finaviya put it on his forehead and shot himself," the Dy SP said.
