Ahmedabad, December 22: At least five were children were killed after a bus ferrying 50 students fall into a deep gorge on Mahal-Bardipada route in Dang district. Dozens others have been left injured in the accident. The victims were rushed to the nearest civic hospital, where they are being treated.
The fatalities are feared to rise, local media reports claimed, as some of the survivors sustained serious injuries. Gujarat features as one of the most unsafe states in India for road commutation. As per the data compiled by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, a total of 8,136 people were killed in road accidents in Gujarat in 2016, followed by 7,289 in 2017.
The fatal accident in Dang has been reported a day after a World Health Organisation report ranked India as the worst country for road transport. The study, titled as 'Global Status Report on Road Safety', finds that every 1 out of 9 fatal road accident is reported from India.
