Rajkot, December 14: A 26-year-old youth died by suicide in Gujarat’s Rajkot on Monday after he failed to clear the physical test for police recruitment. The youth consumed poison at his home. The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Nikunj Makwana. He was a resident of Lili Sajadiyali village. The incident took place on Monday afternoon. According to a report published in The Indian Express, Makwana was rushed to Rajkot Civil Hospital at 6.15 pm. However, he succumbed during the treatment almost an hour later. The deceased had appeared in the physical test that was conducted recently. The test was part of the ongoing police recruitment drive. No suicide note was found near the body. “Makwana had appeared in the physical test conducted recently as part of the ongoing police recruitment drive but had failed. However, an investigation is on to ascertain what exactly caused him to take the extreme step.” Reported the media house quoting Kalubhai Gameti, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Aji Dam police station, as saying. The deceased’s father is a blacksmith, and his elder brother is a teacher. Makwana’s village is located around 30 km from Rajkot.
In a similar incident that surfaced in October this year, a youngster in Tamil Nadu allegedly committed suicide over fears that he may not secure desired marks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Keerthivasan, who lived in Sangarayapuram village in Coimbatore district.
