It is reported that Makwana stayed with his elder brother Kalpesh Makwana and his family in Krishnanagar society.

The alleged incident came to light on Thursday, July 18, when Kalpesh woke up to his brother's. After the incident, the Diamond Workers Union Gujarat alleged that this was the 63rd suicide incident in Surat in the past 15 months. They also alleged that the recession in the diamond industry was to blame for the deaths.

Bhavesh Tank, president of the Diamond Workers Union Gujarat, said that the recession in the diamond industry affected the lives of diamond polishers. Tank further said that 62 diamond polishers died by suicide in the last 15 months.
