Srinagar, March 7: A grenade blast was reported at the Jammu bus stand on Thursday. One person injured in the explosion succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The deceased has been identified as 17-year-old Shariq. At least 28 people were injured in the grenade blast after suspected terrorists carried out a grenade attack in the crowded general bus stand area in the heart of the city. The explosion reportedly took place inside a bus close to an exit point of the bus stand. The bus was about to leave for Delhi. After an initial probe, the Jammu and Kashmir police detained 10 suspects in connection with the blast.
The Jammu bus stand is among the busy transportation centres in the heart of the state where thousands of travellers arrive daily. It was not clear whether it was a terrorist incident. The blast was so powerful that it shattered the glasses of vehicles parked nearby, an eyewitness told a news channel. The incident comes days after the after India launched an anti-terror strike against a Jaish-e-Mohammed terror training camp in Balakot in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
India’s airstrike came in the aftermath of the February 14 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district in which around 40 CRPF jawans were killed.
