Thiruvananthapuram, October 7: A 13-year-old female green anaconda named Dil died at the Thiruvananthapuram Zoo on Thursday, September 7. Despite medical attention, Dil succumbed to her condition. She was one of seven green anacondas brought to the zoo from the National Zoological Gardens in Dehiwala, Sri Lanka, in 2014.

Around 4 p.m. last Thursday, zookeepers discovered Dil, the anaconda, in a frail state. Despite immediate medical intervention, she succumbed to her condition within an hour. Following her passing, a post-mortem examination was carried out by a team from the Chief Disease Investigation Office (CDIO) in Palode. This thorough examination aimed to determine the cause of her sudden decline. Green anacondas generally live up to 10 years in their natural habitat, but those in captivity can live significantly longer due to specialized care. Dil, a notable attraction at the zoo, measured an impressive 3.9 meters in length and weighed 49 kg.
