Noida, July 18: Bodies of eight people were recovered on Wednesday from the debris of the two buildings that collapsed yesterday in Greater Noida’s Shah Beri village. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered compensation of Rs two lakh each for the next of kin of those dead. In addition to this, Rs 50,000 compensation has also been announced to those injured in the collapse in Shah Beri village. rescue is still underway.
Earlier in the day, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Noida, Pankaj Singh called it an unfortunate incident. Singh blamed illegal construction for the collapse and promised strict action against the persons responsible for the incident. The BJP MLA said, “It's unfortunate. Illegal construction should be stopped, and strict action should be taken against those responsible. Officers who overlooked everything should be held responsible and strict action should be taken against them too.”
According to reports, safety norms has not been taken care of while constructing the buildings. As many as 18 families are believed to live in the buildings. Greater Noida authorities had acquired the land in the village from the locals. The villagers protested against the acquisition and also moved court for justice. The Supreme Court later cancelled the purchase. Builders had to change the location of their projects after the apex court’s ruling.
