Noida, December 25: A 45-year-old software engineer, identified as Pawan Dhiman, a resident of Cassia Estate, was charred to death when a car he was traveling caught fire early Tuesday in Kasna's Sector 2 of Greater Noida, police said. "The man was identified as Pavan, who was working in a private company here. He was returning after a night shift when the incident took place at 5.30 am. He was only half a kilometer short of reaching home," police said. Oficials further added, "It appears that the running car, a Ford Ikon, had caught fire and the man could not eject himself out in time."

"We have got to know that he had sent Christmas greetings to friends and relatives in the morning, around 5 am. Everything was fine till then until the fire broke out accidentally. It appears that he could not eject himself from the vehicle in time," police said.

Meanwhile, Pawan's body has been sent for post-mortem. According to preliminary reports, a short-circuit and a problem with blower appears to have triggered the fire but an investigation is underway. A native of Amba in Himachal Pradesh, Pawan was living with his wife and son in a one-bedroom apartment in Greater Noida.

Earlier, a 33-year-old man from Gujarat's Anand died in a car accident with the luxury bus. The impact of the accident was so powerful that doors of the car got locked, as a major fire engulfed, and the victim couldn't come out the vehicle. Later fire brigade officials rushed to douse the fire but by that time the car was already charred.
