New Delhi, July 3: Former principal of Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College, Dr Rajiv Mishra, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court in connection to the Baba Raghavdas Medical college/hospital case, where more than 60 children had died due to alleged lack of oxygen supply or sudden interruption in oxygen supply after the hospital failed to pay the dues. It was one of the biggest tragedies of 2017 and accountability in the case is yet to be fixed.

The former Principal of the government- run BRD Medical college and his wife were taken into custody on August 30, 2017 by the Uttar Pradesh’s Special Task Force (STF) and were questioned after more than 60 children died within 48 hours at the hospital.

The police at the time was also on the lookout for Dr Kafeel Khan, who was the former nodal officer of the AES ward in the hospital. Dr Kafeel Khan, who was also arrested by the police and was in jail in connection to the case, is out on bail and walked out of jail on April 28.  Dr Kafeel Khan's Brother Kashif Jamal was shot at by two unidentified bike-borne miscreants in Durgabadi, Gorakhpur on June 11. He is admitted in King Gorge Hospital in Lucknow Hospital now.

Dr Rajiv Mishra, the former principal of the BRD medical college, who has been granted bail today by the Supreme Court, had an FIR registered against him and his medico wife named Purnima Shukla in August 2017 by the Uttar Pradesh government and were picked for interrogation by the STF team which had then brought them to Gorakhpur for further inquiry.
